Permanent Met Mast contracts Ireland

Data Structures are delighted to confirm that contracts are signed for the design, installation and commissioning of three new SLX5W PMM towers for delivery this Summer / Autumn in Ireland.

Cleanrath Windfarm by Enerco Energy is a 46.2MW development in Co. Cork.
Knockranny Windfarm by Enerco Energy is a 48MW development in Co. Cork.
Drumnahough Windfarm by SSE & FuturEnergy is a 58MW development in Co. Donegal.

SLX met masts are designed in accordance with IEC61400-50-1.2022 (technical) and Eurocodes (structural) and can be supplied with OEM warranty to 10-years, providing long-term wind measurement to support windfarm operational performance.

These projects further strengthen Data Structures' growing portfolio of met mast installations in Ireland & the UK.

Navigating Site Restrictions Through Phased Delivery

Data Structures continues to progress the replacement of an existing 62m UM50 radio mast in the Midlands of Ireland with a new 62m SLX4T Radio Mast, due for completion this summer.

The project has involved several significant site restrictions, requiring careful planning, phased delivery works and continuous engagement with both our client and their customers to ensure minimal disruption throughout the programme.

Key challenges on site included:

Restricted site access due to a low SWL stream crossing, preventing concrete trucks, delivery vehicles and crane access. To overcome this, the mast installation is being carried out using double-certified gin poles to maintain lifting SWL compliance.
Antenna line-of-sight and path profile constraints, requiring detailed coordination to determine the optimum mast elevation and phased installation sequencing alongside planned radio outages.
Maintaining and improving existing radio coverage throughout the transition phase, involving commissioning of the new mast and RF antenna arrays before the phased decommissioning of the existing structure.

The completed infrastructure will support improved communications capability while ensuring continuity of service during the transition period.

Interestingly, the existing UM50 mast being replaced was originally installed more than 30 years ago by members of the current Data Structures team, highlighting decades of experience in delivering critical communications infrastructure across Ireland and the UK.

36m Telecoms Tower Installed in Co. Cork

The telecoms tower build season is ongoing for DataStructures, with several major infrastructure projects progressing across Ireland and the UK.

Here we can see our team complete our latest installation of a 36m SLX5T multi-user mobile and telecoms tower near Mallow, Co. Cork to provide additional payload capacity and replace an existing 18m slim-line lattice tower later this summer.

Alongside these telecoms and broadcast installations, our met mast teams remain active across Ireland and Scotland, delivering multiple 80m–120m structures, while our LiDAR rental fleet continues supporting wind measurement campaigns throughout the region.

With a strong pipeline of projects across telecoms, broadcast and renewable energy infrastructure, the coming months continue to be a busy period for our crews on the ground.

Overcoming Site Constraints to Deliver 59.5m Telecoms Tower

DataStructures has successfully completed the installation of a 59.5m lattice telecoms tower, overcoming a number of significant site challenges through careful planning and on-site expertise.

With limited compound space, narrow access tracks, and restricted crane reach, the project required a hands-on approach. The final 17.5m tower sections were manually installed beyond crane reach, demonstrating the experience and adaptability of our installation teams in challenging environments.

By making best use of available resources and applying proven techniques, the team was able to safely and efficiently complete the structure to full height, delivering another high-quality outcome for our client.

Throughout the project, strong collaboration with the client, as well as positive engagement with local residents and hikers, ensured smooth progress and minimal disruption on site.

The completed tower will support a range of critical infrastructure, including mobile networks, broadcast radio, critical communications, point-to-point links, and local area WiFi coverage for the population of North East Wicklow and South Dublin areas. 🇮🇪
